I’m a Michigan native, sometime artist, environmental economist, and lapsed organic farmer currently based in Washington’s San Juan Islands. My early interest in photography gradually waned along with the expense and availability of film processing, so I now enjoy the analog media of drawing in pen & ink, watercolors and woodcut printing. Since I was gifted Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain years ago and began drawing again, I’ve focused on black & white images and techniques using lines and patterns to capture light, shadows and form. From 2011 to 2019, I ran Food Field, a diversified farm on 4 acres in central Detroit. For year-end market sales I produced calendars as an excuse to explore the city and practice drawing and photography while learning about local flora and foods. As you can tell, I love incorporating puzzles and games into various projects and draw inspiration from cryptic works like Christopher Manson’s Maze and Byron Preiss’s The Secret. My current project is a tribute to Belle Isle and its hidden corners & mysteries.
